Reflection:

On April 11, 2022, I was able to implement my art lesson in the Jets room. First started by filling out the pre-assessment

checklist by speaking with the kids to see where they stood on the objectives for my lesson. I did this by starting a short conversation

with me by using what I know about them. For example, one of the students just came back from a trip so I asked about their trip. I was

able to fill out my pre-assessment by doing this and add comments as well about students. I did this on a printed-out checklist but I

transfer my information to the Google Docs version so it would be easier to read. I did this for the final checklist as well.

Next, the Jets went outside and I got to work on setting up my activity on the art table they have during table activities. I added

big straws, skinny straws, and small straws. I wanted the children to have different straws so they can see how the airflow is different

compared to each straw and allows for students’ choice as well. Also, certain straws may be easier for certain students. I choose three

different tempera paint washable. The colors were pink, blue and red. I only choose three so it would be easier for me to control the

paints and it wouldn’t be as messy. I made sure the table had paper unfortunately I could only find a white large piece of paper for the

students to use. The art table included markers, scissors, glue, washi tapes, crayons, and many other art materials.

One thing I learned quickly is the paper was almost too thin for the amount of painting that was being used. At times I felt like

the paint was bleeding through the paper on the table. The second thing I learned quickly the paint was hard to move with blowing

straws. The students had a very hard time blowing into the straws. Some did better than others. I did have a variety of straws that were

different sizes to see if that would help them create the artwork. The third thing I learned was taking notes and filling out the checklist

was harder with paint everywhere. Paint even got on mine my printed checklist one of the reasons I transfer my information on the

Google Docs version.

I would change the type of paint used. I think watercolor paint would be easier to move with blowing into the straw. I would also

use thick paper or maybe paint a canvas as well. I would also provide bubble wands to see if that would help students as well. I thought

the students enjoyed the activity and added to the artwork they created by using the other materials on the table. For example, adding

details with markers to their blowing paint artwork. It was very fun watching and helping them make artwork by blowing through straws.

Overall the students were able to move the paint but at the skill or level, I thought they would be able to. Some struggle more

than others with blowing the straw and moving the paint. The students learned if they used the same idea of blowing out candles the

paint moved better. So, I would remind them to blow like they were blowing out candles on their birthday cake.

I choose to do this lesson due to my experiences and my past lesson with the Jets. I did wind resistance with them last week. It

involved the students using a hair dryer moving a 3D object and measuring the distance with a tape measure. The students enjoyed so

I thought I would add art to it. I took my visual arts lesson plan and changed it to wind with paint.

In conclusion, I was able to connect and make memories with the Jets. I was able to see them struggle and have fun creating art.

I was able to see how each child was creative in a different way when they were making their artwork. I enjoyed doing this activity with

them. I enjoyed my time in the jets room. It was fun to see them throughout the spring semester and see them grow. I wish them the

best and hope they continue to grow.
