Based on my analysis, I think the teacher used different approaches in designing her

worksheet/module such as the reader-response approach, personal response approach and

stylistic approach. The teacher designed three stages in giving activities to her students, the
pre-reading, during reading and post reading in every literature that she required to be read by
her students.

In “pre-reading stage”, the approach that has been utilized is personal approach. The teacher
gave questions that are about the students personally, which awakens the emotion of the
students and to prepare them to actively involve and to be introduced to the literature.
Meanwhile, in the “during reading stage”, the teacher utilized reader-response approach. The
teacher’s questions made it strategically involve the students by asking them their own
understanding and encourage them to explain and defend their personal reactions on the
characters and plots in the literature. Lastly, the teacher utilized the stylistic response approach
in “post reading stage”, specifically on the activities that let them criticize the literature on the
point of view of literary criticism namely, feminism, Marxism, new historicism, or colonialism
which can promote literary appreciation.

Though there are three different approaches that has been used, I think that reader-response
approach is the approach that has been mostly used in designing this module because the
questions mostly encourages the students’ respond and asked how the literature reflect their
life, emotions, experiences and the community surrounds them which emphasizes that the
students’ role is giving a meaning to the text that has been read.
