Entrepreneurship has historically been known since it was introduced by
Richard Castillon in 1755. Abroad, the term entrepreneurship has been known
since the 16th century, while in Indonesia it was only known at the end of the
20th century. Some entrepreneurial terms such as in the Netherlands are
known as ondernemer, in Germany known as unternehmer.
Entrepreneurial education began to be pioneered since the 1950s in
several countries such as Europe, America, and Canada. Even since the 1970s
many universities have taught entrepreneurship or small business
management. In the 1980s, nearly 500 schools in the United States provided
entrepreneurial education. In Indonesia, new learned entrepreneurship is
limited to a few specific schools or colleges only.
In line with developments and challenges such as the economic crisis,
the understanding of entrepreneurship both through formal education and
training in all walks of life of entrepreneurship has developed.

2.2 Understanding Entrepreneurship

Literally Entrepreneurship consists of the basic word entrepreneur who

gets the beginning to and suffixes, so it can be interpreted entrepreneurship

In English the entrepreneur is enterpenuer, the term was first introduced

by Richard Cantillon, a French economist. According to him, entrepreneur
is "agent who buys means of production at certain prices in order to
combine them". In the not too distant future, another French economist,
Jean Baptista Say added the definition of Cantillon with the concept of
entrepreneur as a leader. In general, there are many definitions put forward
by experts, regarding entrepreneurship, taken from various sources:

 Pinchot: Entrepreneurship is the ability to internalize existing talents,

engineering, and opportunities.
 Thomas W. Zimmerer: Entrepreneurship is the application of creativity and
innovation to solve problems and efforts to take advantage of the
opportunities faced every day.
 Richard Cantillon (1775), for example, defined entrepreneurship as self-
employment. An entrepreneur buys the current item at a certain price and
sells it in the future at an uncertain price. So this definition puts more
emphasis on how a person faces risk or uncertainty.
Peter Drucker, entrepreneurship is the ability to create something new and
different. People who carry out entrepreneurial activities are called
entrepreneurs. The question arises why an entrepreneur has a different way
of thinking than humans in general. They have motivations, soul calls,
perceptions and emotions that are strongly associated with values, attitudes
and behaviors as superior human beings.

2.3 Understanding Entrepreneurship

 According to the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), the notion of

entrepreneurship, namely people who are smart or talented to recognize
new products, determine new ways of production, arrange operations for
the procurement of new products, market them, and organize the capital of
their operations.
5

 According to Richard Cantillon (1755), entrepreneurial is an innovator and

individual developing something unique and new (entrepreneur is an
inventor and an individual who builds something unique and new).
 According to Mas'ud Machfoedz and Mahmud Machfoedz (2004),
entrepreneurship is an innovator who is able to turn opportunities into an
idea that can be sold, can provide added value through effort, time, cost,
and proficiency with the aim of profiting.
