LAS #1 – TITLE: Determining the Ideas of the Author and Noting

Biases and Prejudices in a Text
DIRECTIONS:Read the text below then answer the given questions.
Activity # 1

1
Who are the usual victims of discrimination? The young? The black? Women?
2
In this age where people possess too much freedom, anyone can be discriminated.
Literally anyone. And in this era of technological advancement, opportunities and
platforms to perform discriminatory acts increased as well.
3
For example, not all Middle East guys have sinister motives in sending messages
on social media. How come there are a lot of memes that feature them? And when a
guy from that area says “hi” in messenger, we instinctively block the account.
4
Gender is also a factor in discrimination. According to UNICEF, the frequency of
cyberviolence for males (44 per cent) is almost the same for females (43 per cent).
However, based on a study, more females receive messages of sexual nature or
content than males.
5
We may not notice it, but discrimination can and may happen to anyone.
