In the recent years, the electronic health information system has become an

essential tool for collecting, storing, and sharing health-related information between

promoting the use of Information Technology in healthcare through making health

information accessible when and where needed to advance and protect people’s health

and wellbeing (DeSalvo, 2015). The five-year strategic plan aims at improving health,

healthcare, and reducing healthcare costs using IT within the plan’s scheduled period

that runs from 2015 to 2020. Accordingly, the vision and mission of this strategic plan

(DeSalvo, 2015). In order to achieve this, there are three objectives to be met and they

include facilitating secure sending, receiving, finding, and use of electronic health

information by individuals, public health entities and public health providers;

individuals and communities and it has two main objectives (DeSalvo, 2015). The

first objective involves empowering the caregiver, family and individual engagement

and health management and the second objective is to promote and protect the

community, public health.

Finally, the fifth goal is to promote research, innovation, and scientific

knowledge and it has three objectives. The first objective involves enabling the access

and use of electronic health and information services while the second involves

hastening the development and commercialization of innovative services and

technologies. The last objective involve investing, disseminating, and translating

research on methods through which IT can be used to improve health care delivery.
