Analyzing two videos

The songs I chose to analyze is “Hold You Down” by DJ Khaled FT (Chris Brown,

August Alisiana, Future and Jeremiah). And the cover of this song by Jacquese “Hold you down”

(remix) This original song/video was published January 16, 2015. The cover version was

published January 13, 2016. The songs have the same meaning, and the videos are both very

similar. “Hold you down” is the main lyric in the song and the meaning of it is saying that no

matter what happens I will be here for you and give You everything you need their singing it

about a girl. In the cover version it gives more of a brief understanding instead of saying “I'll

hold you down” he says “she holds me down. They both are saying the same thing in the original

version it says, “girl you deserve it so ill hold you down.” They're expressing their love for a girl

in both songs. These songs were written to tell this girl that they love her are doing everything

they can for her and Shes being there for him as well just as much.

The original version's music video shows what the lyrics are about and saying. There is a

lot more people singing and in the video of the original song, but the cover version is only a guy

and a girl. In the cover I feel like he is only talking to one girl and expressing his love and care

for her whereas in the original video there's Multiple girls and guys. But in the original video

Chris brown a character is singing to this girl saying she deserves, and, in the video, it shows that

he is giving her money and bought her a bunch of shoes. A quote used in the song “through it all
you stuck with me” and in the video when this lyric is used he is giving her a stack of money and

saying ill hold you down. Which shows the meaning of the song and the same in the cover video.

He is on a beach with her just singing everything to her, not giving her anything but hugging and

kissing, but there is more of a deep feeling watching it.

The same story is being told in both of the songs are just being told in separate ways. It

shows this song is meant for a girl and that they are doing stuff to hold her down. There is not

much of a difference between both versions. Both songs use the appeal of pathos they are singing

and showing emotion there showing and telling their love for a girl and what they are doing for

her. The setting of the original video is in a big house that the artist bought for this girl because

he is holding her down. It shows all the artists in the video and all the girls that they are singing

to. When one of the artists has their own part to sing it shows that artist in the video singing to a

select girl. In the cover version they are just on a beach it is the artist and a girl he is singing to

they do not do anything but stand on the beach with each other and kiss and hug. Because he is

only singing to that girl.

The audience that the artists are trying to attract is women. It is a slow love song sung

about a girl. It could even attract guys that are in love with a girl and understand the lyrics. But it

is definitely more in the direction of women. Just because I feel like it is the type of song a guy

would call “corny” and girls would like. The songs are both singing to a girl so most definitely it

is trying to attract the audience of women. By showing the charm of a man and him giving her

money and buying her shoes and a house. And just the fact that he is singing to her. Every girl

wants the feeling of lobe from a man which is why this the audience that this song is going to

attract. The videos give reason for the claim the main lyric that is used is “hold you down “in the
original or “she holds me down” in the cover and they are clearly showing what they are saying

by showing the girl and giving her stuff.

In conclusion, both songs are basically the same and they are saying the same thing.

They're going to hold this girl down no matter what, because she was there to hold him down.

The videos are supporting the claim and say what they are showing. The audience is mainly

made to attract women that want the feeling of being in love. They're expressing love for a girl in

both videos, but the cover has less people than the original but is still getting the same point

across. In the cover he is giving the girl more credit for holding him down than in the original is

mainly just saying he is doing everything for her. It's using emotion which is pathos to appeal to

the listeners or watchers. Because all it is showing is love and care that they have for this special

someone and everything they are going to do. These songs were written to tell this girl that they

love her are doing everything they can for her and Shes being there for him as well just as much.
