Please provide complete answers to the following questions. Type your answers into a
Word (or similar program) document and then upload the document using the Test 3
Assignment Link in Folder 4a. Each answer should be at least a paragraph long,
should reference concepts that are part of the learning theory involved, and should offer
concrete suggestions when asked for. Each question is worth 2 points with the
exception of #8 which is worth 1 point for a total of 15 points.

1. Drawing on Piaget’s theory, explain why Cindy understood the book.
2. Based on Piaget’s theory, explain why Lucy didn’t understand the book.
3. What could Mr. Johnson do to help Lucy understand?

Interview with Emily


4. Identify and explain the three specific strategies that Emily uses when she studies.
5. For each of the strategies, describe the extent to which it is likely to help Emily
remember and apply school subject matter over the long run.

The Reading Incentive Program


6. Analyze the case from the perspective of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.
7. Why do you think Sami went from receiving 1 star the first month to receiving 30
stars the next? Why does she no longer read in her free time at school?
8. What are the problems with this type of incentive program? How might an
incentive program be developed that does not undermine students’ motivation to
read?
