Subject: Office Equipment Damaged by Lightning

CC: Coworker 1; Coworker 2; Coworker 3

Good afternoon HR,

Earlier this morning, three of the coworkers in my department brought to my attention that
some of their office equipment had been damaged. This damage appears to have been caused
by a power surge, which I can only imagine was the result of a lightning strike from the severe
thunderstorm that came through overnight. Coworker 1 had his laptop damaged, Coworker 2
had her desktop damaged, and Coworker 3 noticed that the office printer had been damaged
too. Whenever possible, please send some assistance to these employees regarding their
damaged equipment.

As I’m sure you remember, Coworker 4 also had her desktop damaged from a power surge just
last month. We receive a lot of thunderstorms here in Central Florida, and I think it’s imperative
that we take some more precautions to prevent this from happening again. Something as
simple as a mass email to notify employees to unplug their equipment before a big storm may
be sufficient. If necessary, we could even think about improving the lightning protection system
installed on the building. Let me know what you think, and hopefully we can discuss this in a
meeting sometime this week.

Best regards,
