MODEL CLASS - ENGLISH - 1

Focus: Speaking (Listening)


Main aim: By the end of the lesson learners will be better able to talk about objects like a clock, a menu for a restaurant, etc that will be most
useful for future historians.
Sub aims: They will also develop their listening sub skill of detail comprehension.

Materials: LIFE 2nd Edition PRE-INTERMEDIATE p. 128 Unit 11 History, opener.


Procedures:

- Lead in: Engage students in the topic of history. There’s a picture you can use. Work on predictions for ex. 1

- Listening for detail: Use ex. 2.

- Content input: To provide an opportunity for students to brainstorm ideas, prepare notes, think about what they will say in the task
- Instructions: The instructions for this stage are crucial and should include a focus on interaction, goal and time limit.

- Speaking task: Here, the activity itself. This is the main part of the lesson. At least 10 minutes.

- Content Feedback: Acknowledge learners’ contributions by asking what they talked about

- You will have 2 or 3 students.

Focus: Listening (speaking)
Main aim: By the end of the lesson learners will have developed their listening sub skill for gist and specific information in the context of
holidays.
Sub aims: They will also develop their speaking sub skill of fluency.

Materials: LIFE 2nd Edition PRE-INTERMEDIATE p. 105 Unit 9 Holidays, opener.


Procedures:
- Lead in: Engage students in the topic of holidays. There’s a picture you can use. Work on predictions for ex. 1

- Pre teach vocabulary (If relevant)

- Listening for gist: Use ex. 2

- Listening for specific information: Use ex. 3.

- Follow-up task: Ex. 3

- Content Feedback: Acknowledge learners’ contributions by asking what they talked about
- Language Feedback: (If time allows and if relevant) Focus on accuracy. Share instances of good language use and target areas for
remedial correction.
