ACCESIBLE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

A good transportation system can be a key element when evaluating a city and/or country
and its level of comfort with the citizen; including different forms of mobility, both
motorized and active, that are environmentally friendly, accessible, and safe, is what
every city should achieve. This is why our project is about designing solutions for the
needs of our city.

An accessible city is one that takes care of even the smallest detail, whether in its streets,
buildings, parks, etc., it has a duty and an obligation and for this, the necessary
modifications must be made for its total accessibility.

In order to start creating an accessible transportation system we must have the following
deficiencies in place

1- Dominance of informality

The city of Chiclayo has a high percentage of informal transportation that is considered
unsafe by many people. Currently, actions are being taken to improve the public
transportation system; however, they do not fit within the concept of an accessible
transportation system.

Solutions:

Have good access to all possible routes that allow people to access buses safely.

2- Buses with poor accessibility for vulnerable population

Within the buses or formal transportation, there are several flaws in the design and
accessibility for the vulnerable population.

For example: the buses have steps that are too high and become obstacles for people
with disabilities, and there is not enough space for a baby carriage, a bicycle, or a
wheelchair.
What is needed now is that transportation can be beneficial for all people, especially
those with limitations.

Accessible transport as such is a right that all people have, to be able to circulate freely,
whether in buses, own vehicles, trains, subways, coaches, etc., for this all companies
and organizations involved in transport must have this as a principle, and that is nothing
less than taking care of its accessibility so that a person with a disability has full mobility
to travel wherever he or she wants.

Solutions:

Copy or replicate the design of buses from countries with more advanced development,
an assigned space for wheelchairs is necessary, as well as a space to be able to mobilize
people's belongings such as baby carriages or bicycles. Access for people with
disabilities is very important. Develop and design buses that are less high or with some
technology such as a ramp to allow wheelchairs to pass

3- Disorder

Currently the transportation system has certain stops for people to access the bus,
however; these measures are not respected by all drivers and even by people.

Solution:

Be more respectful with the specific stops and place sanctions those drivers who fail to
comply with this normal. For this we also need to raise awareness of the people who use
the transport. We can help this with informative posters and maps so that people can be
guided to specific routes and stops.

4- Little public transport at night.

Achieving an inclusive transport service requires, among other things, adopting

measures to cover the travel needs of night users. The promotion of these services aims
to increase urban economic activity, with the consequent increase in value, in addition
to providing accessibility opportunities for all citizens that they would not otherwise have.

Solution:

Providing a service capable of satisfying the needs of all users, regardless of time and
origin - destination, is the basis for the consolidation of efficient systems, capable of
satisfying the development and competitiveness needs of cities. For example: Implement
an Insurgentes Nightbus corridor in the cities.
