Mental health is important and is a part of overall health.

Psychological, emotional, and social well-being

are all aspects of mental health. Proper mental health leads to proper mental functioning, which leads
to activity productivity, healthy and happy relationships with others, and the ability to cope and adapt to
adversity. Even though mental health is a highly personal matter, what affects one person may or may
not effect another; yet, there are several key elements that lead to mental health issues. Life
experiences such as trauma or abuse, biological variables such as genes or brain chemistry, and even a
family history of mental health disorders can all influence an individual's mental health. Stressful work
environments, rapid societal changes, gender discrimination, social isolation, physical disease, and
human rights violations are all linked to poor mental health. Mental health has been described for a long
time as the absence of mental diseases like anxiety and sadness. All diagnosable mental disorders —
health conditions marked by changes in mood, thought, and behavior linked with poor functioning or
distress – are referred to as mental disease.

Mental health and mental illness are inextricably linked. Those with good mental health can develop
mental illness, while people with no mental illness can have poor mental health. People have recently
begun to take mental health seriously and to take appropriate efforts to address any mental health
difficulties. There is treatment available; people with mental health issues can improve by seeking it.
