Essay guidelines: Advanced Cognitive Processes

Topic: Journal your thoughts, feelings, and cognitive experiences for one day. Analyse this
journal entry in context of concepts from ACP.
Points to cover in your essay
1. Brief Timeline of your day- a diagram or paragraph that maps out what your
day was like, demonstrating landmark/important events.
2. Elaborate these important events in context of your:
a. Thoughts
b. Words/Actions
c. Any problems you encountered
d. The cognition/process to solve or attempt to solve the problem
3. Use theories, models, concepts etc to explain or elaborate on these events:
a. which concepts from ACP did you observe?
b. How were they related with each other?
c. Is there research that backs up your observation?
4. Conclusion- a quick summary of the concepts you explored in the essay
5. References in APA format
6. Bibliography
General instructions for essay
• Ensure in-text citations are correct, and properly mentioned in references
• Underline/bold/ italics to be used to highlight concepts you have used in the essay
• Maintain a good flow. You are free to change the structure as long as it suits your
flow, but cover all points from the guideline.
• Be creative! Any additions you’d like to make, or novel ways to present/ approach/
analyse your content are welcome, as long as you are implementing your concepts.
Formatting
• Save document as Rollno-Subject
o Eg: PSYBSC0000-ACP
• Word limit: 2-2.5k words
• 12 pt Times New Roman
• Single Spaced
• Labelled (and cascading) headings
• Header on top left and pg no. on top right side of the page
• Indented paragraphs
• Label any tables appropriately
• References and Bibliography: 11pt, first line hanging, alphabetically arranged
