Schools all over America are struggling to save money so there’s bound to be some cut

costs. However, to what extent should a school do to save money? In the article “You
want 4 million quarters back? Sack high school sports”, Hans Gruber, a member of the
volksfrei movement press, claims that extracurricular activities are not necessary and
don’t benefit the school. However, other evidence shows that extracurricular activities
do provide lots of benefits and are a vital part of school life.

One of Gruber’s claims is that sports hurt the learning experience. However, what
Gruber fails to consider is that sports help build team and communication skills which is
a vital skill for later in life to help work with others. He then continues by arguing that
sports are a waste of time and that athletes don’t care about learning. Gruber’s claim is
not backed up by any factual evidence and seems to be backed by personal beliefs. It is
necessary for athletes to keep their grades up because if they have a low grade
average then they won’t be able to play sports. He also fails to consider that not all
athletes are the same, I know an athlete who is a straight A student and is a pivotal
member in the football team. To sum it up, Hans Gruber seems to lack any evidence to
support his claims and seems to be motivated by his own personal bias.
