Explain how the cover and first pages of the book attract and hold the reader’s interest. Give 3examples from
the book

1. The cover has a picture of three little girls of different race and each of them are holding something they
enjoy doing.
2. he first two pages of the book shows a little girl standing around other children in a museum setting
3. The colors are very vibrant and bright
STYLE AND LANGUAGE – Explain how the book shares information with children. Examples: “little-known

1.Persisted -is a word use throughout the book it talks about each woman and what they did and how they
stayed persisted.
2. Determined -was another word use in the book Virginia Apgar lost her brother at an early age, so she was
so determined to be a Doctor but although she was qualified to be a surgeon at her hospital. The male
surgeon at her hospital tried to discourage her because she was a woman but she was persisted becoming
anesthesiologist.
3.Refused- Claudette Colvin refused to give her seat to a white women she took a stand for her rights which
inspire Rosa Parks to make that same choice 8 months later.
