WELCOME TO PHOENIX!
Dear Academic Consortium friend,

It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to Phoenix.

This year’s Academic Consortium Members Meeting
and the International Congress is going to be like no
other. We come from all over to celebrate our passion
and each other. We come together to heal and to learn.
My wishes for you as we share the precious gift of a few
days together are to stay open to the possibilities, to
be kind, to welcome someone new, to stay curious, to
take extra care of yourself, to honor the land, to explore
the surroundings, to hug old friends, to celebrate
your resilience, to create memories, to sleep deeply, to
experience joy, to try new food, to find support, and
maybe even to dance a little.

Together, we really can do anything.

Zachary Kadro, ND
University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill

The Academic Consortium Ather Ali Scholarship Award for naturo-

pathic physicians (ND) was established with support from the Samueli
Foundation to honor the life, work, memory and spirit of Ather Ali,
ND, MPH, MHS. He was one of very few naturopathic physicians in North America who
became truly integrated into an academic medical center, assuming an international leader-

of the Ather Ali Scholarship Award.
Dr. Kadro is a T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of North Carolina School
of Medicine, Chapel Hill. Throughout his fellowship, he has worked with the Evidence-
Based Practice Center, conducting a systematic review of atrial fibrillation screening for the
United States Preventive Services Task Force, collaborated with several research groups, and
mentored medical students interested in integrative medicine. He is completing a Master of

INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS WELCOME
On behalf of the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health, we want
to warmly welcome you to the 2022 International Congress on Integrative Medicine and

CONGRESS WELCOME
Health in Phoenix, Arizona! The mission of the Academic Consortium is to advance the
field of integrative medicine and health, particularly through our academic institutions and
health systems. This International Congress is an important part of how we put our core
organizational values into action: Evidence Informed, Leadership, Transformation, Integrity,
Interprofessional, and Community.
Each year, we aim to make this the most comprehensive scientific conference in the field
of integrative medicine and health. In that respect- this year will be no different! However,
undeniably, this year is unique and special in other important ways. The COVID-19 pan-
demic has touched and transformed each of our lives in such profound ways. Yet, it has been
clear throughout that this community is resilient and strong- and has predictably stepped
up to contribute its gifts and talents when needed most. Integrative medicine and its focus
on whole person health has never been so important. We are at a pivotal moment in history
where integrative medicine and health has the opportunity to truly shine!
The 2022 International Congress features a full program of outstanding plenary speakers,
sessions and workshops, oral and poster scientific abstract presentations. There are special events
planned for trainees and early-career investigators, and a host of pre-conference, early morning,
lunchtime, and evening opportunities. We are grateful to the funders who helped support the
Congress and the many academic and professional organizations that join us. Thanks to all
of you who submitted the very impressive array of abstracts and symposia, those who helped
serve as reviewers and the Scientific Review Committee. A special thank you to our Program
Committee members who worked tirelessly to make this Congress a reality.
While we missed being with you all in Cleveland in 2020, we hope that this International
Congress will not only fill that gap, but do so in an overabundance of re-energized spir-
its, innovation and emergence, joy and meaningful connection. We are excited to come
together—to take in the serene setting of this indigenous land, to convene safely with the
Congress community, and to have fun! Your involvement is central to the success of the 2022
International Congress on Integrative Medicine & Health.
Thank you everyone for being here with us. May the 2022 Congress exceed all our expectations!

CONGRESS INFO
Thursday, May 26
12:30 – 13:30 Film Screening: To the Stranger Who Has Loved You Kave Two
Presented by True North Treks
This film closely follows young adult cancer survivors Lindsey and Lizzie,
and Lizzie’s husband Justin, as they grapple in their own ways with all of
the “usual suspect” issues that young adults and caregivers with cancer
can face - loss of identity, goal interference, body betrayal, pain, treat-
ment-related side effects and hassles, relationship discord, depression,
anxiety, fear, and the list goes on. And all of that on top of all of the
other “regular stuff” that comes with being a young adult. Each of them
chose to go on a True North Trek where they would have opportunities
to connect with nature, connect with peers, and connect with themselves
through mindfulness meditation and yoga.
This film offers attendees a first-hand look at what it’s like to go on a True
North Trek, what happens, how people share their brokenness with each
other, and how being with one another in nature, practicing mindful
awareness, can be truly transformational. For healthcare providers, this
film will provide tools to help them be better able to connect with young
adult survivors and caregivers with empathy, compassion, and grace.
