treating our friends with respect and using kind work and that we all have feelings and when we
are treated unkind it hurts.

-Read the poem Hug O War

-Friendship in preschool is all about friends

-Ask the children what did they think about the poem? what did it mean when it says I will not
play tug o’ war, I’d rather play hug o war?

-Is it ok to have more than one friend?

-How should friends act and behave?

B. Plan for extension activity:

Today we are going to make a friendship circle we are all going to work together because that’s
what friends do!

- Each child will pick their color paint to paint their hand in our friendship circle.

- When dry, have the children print their names in the middle of their hand.

- Allow students 20 mins to paint hands having fun choosing a spot on the circle to place
their hand.

5. Closure:

- Ask the children what they thought about our friendship circle they have created?

- Ask the children what we learned today about friends and how we should play with our
friends. And what happens if we are not kind to our friends? How does that make our
friends feel?

- Give positive feedback, hang up our friendship circle on our classroom door.
- Since we have talked about friendship tomorrow we are going to talk about problem
solving using our social emotional skills.
