How to Check If an Article is Peer-Reviewed

The goal for a peer reviewed article is to have quality content. The content has to have

truthful and factual information that will get reviewed by other professionals in the same field as

the person writing the article. They will then check if the information is valid to share with

others. Once the article has been reviewed and approved by the professionals, they will then

suggest revising the article. Then they will turn in the article and get posted in a scholarly

journal.

One of the characteristics that a peer-reviewed article has is the name of the scholarly

journal. This will tell the readers that it has been approved by other professionals in the same

field. Next, it will have a serious, thoughtful tone. Ofcourse, they might provide more than ten

pages of content. However, it might not always be that way of having more than ten pages. Next,

the article might contain an abstract or summary in the first page. Next, organizations by heading

must be provided. It lets the reader know what part of the article they are reading. It also

organizes the location of the content. Next is citations throughout the article. Also containing

bibliography or a reference page at the very end. Lastly, must contain credentialed authors that

took part in the article.

There are three categories of information resources. The first category is “Newspapers

and magazines containing news.” This category is when someone writes an article in a field that

they are not professionals at, which might have incorrect information. The second category is

“Journals containing articles written by academics and/or professionals.” What this category

means is “although the articles are written by “experts,” any particular “expert” may have some

ideas that are really “out there!”

There are four things you can do to make sure that you are finding peer-reviewed sources.

The first thing that you can do is “limiting a database search to peer-reviewed only.” In other

words, you can make a database only choose the peer-reviewed articles only. Next, you can visit

the website Ulrichsweb.com to verify that the article is peer-reviewed. Next, you want to check

the publication to see if it is peer-reviewed. Lastly, you can look at the official website and verify

that it says that it is a peer-reviewed publication.
