Problem 1. A 10-ft long cantilever slab has a live load of 100 psf. The dead load includes self weight, using a
unit weight of 150 lb/ft3 for concrete. Superimposed dead load is assumed to be 30% of the live load. Concrete
has a compressive strength of 5,500 psi, with 20% lower strength at the time of transfer. Use Grade 270 stress-
relieved seven-wire strands with an initial prestress of 189,000 psi, a yield stress of 230,000 psi, and 20%
prestress loss. No mild steel is used in the section. Use ACI for the allowable stresses.

A. Find the minimum depth of the slab assuming straight tendons (round up to the closest integer). (25
points)
B. If placed at the center of the lower kern, find an integer number of ½ diameter seven-wire strands that
would result in the maximum allowable tensile stress at the time of transfer. Cross sectional area of each
strand is 0.153 in2. (35 points)
C. Check all four stress conditions at the support. (25 points)

Problem 2. What is the ratio of the creep loss occurring in the first 30 days to that which occurs in the second 30
days? (15 points)
