Preparing it requires a lot of skill and tact.

No matter how skilled I am in sieving out the stones that get


mixed up with the beans before cooking it, from time to time,
my teeth still come in contact with a few of those demonic
stone fragments while savouring the meal. These stones seek
to spoil the fun that comes with chewing hot Jollof beans
combined with hot, smooth and creamy akamu.

am really shocked at how free premium value has

am going to start this book just like I ended it. Your final

This part of the book gave me sleepless nights. I wanted it to be


perfect for you and me.

What’s more perfect than you getting to know me, especially


aspects of me you never knew existed? Let me share my story
with you.

2001 is a year I would never forget! My journey through life


took a drastic negative turn like a large truck veering off a
bridge and into the water. On this day, my own father will pack
his bags and dash out of the house, never to be seen again. I
was just a confused 7-year-old boy when all this happened.

Upon his exit from my life, life became difficult for me, my
mother and two beautiful younger sisters; I went from living
the comfortable life of an average Nigerian kid straight into
abject poverty.

At age 9, I chose to help my mother hawk akamu on the streets

of Port Harcourt, Nigeria just to make ends meet for my family.


It was a routine I had to carry out every morning just before
going to school.

At age 12, I finally fulfilled one of my dreams. Yes! I was able to


buy my first pair of Aba-made shoes, two okirika shirts and a
trouser with the money I had saved up working as a labourer
on various construction sites. Before this time, I was known as
the “Slippers Boy”, I would wear my worn-out slippers
everywhere even to church on Sunday mornings.

At age 15, I made up my mind that my children, my children's


children and my progeny for generations to come would never
experience the sting of poverty like I did. It was a strong
conviction.

I went on a voracious search for answers. I scoured through


books, attended conferences and subscribed to courses. I sat
down with mentors and friends who were already living the
kind of life I wanted to live.

By the time I was 18, I had read over 200 books that cut across
several subjects like Finance, Wealth Creation, Leadership,

My life was beginning to take shape little by little.

Also, during this period I had started a youth organization


aimed at helping young leaders maximize and deploy their
potentials. I had also organized four youth conferences in
three Nigerian Universities.

Today, I get paid to do work that I love and I can work from
anywhere in the world. Heck, I can even work naked.

Why am I sharing this with you? I need you to know and


appreciate my journey. Your story may be similar to mine,
worse than mine or even better than mine, it doesn’t matter.

lot of things fought for my attention and time as a
little boy. I was interested in arts, engineering, public
speaking, writing etc. I wanted to be the jack of all
trades and master of all.

Did it work? No, it didn't. I failed excellently.

JUST IMAGINE

Imagine that you are seated in a large conference hall. This


hall is packed out with almost any influential and renowned
individual you know. The energy and vibe in the room are off
the charts.

Almost immediately, you notice a lone figure climbing up the


podium. As the stage light floods the stage, the lone figure
transforms into a fine young man.

But there is a problem? You don't know who he is. You have
never heard about him, not on TV, radio or on any other media
platform. From the reaction of others in the room, your
deductions become validated; they don't know him either.

“Who the heck is this guy?” you hear the man sitting next to
you ask his colleague in a hushed tone.

The fine young man on the podium who nobody knows picks
up the microphone and starts rambling about his new book.

Finally, after about an hour of trying to convince everyone –


probably already bored to death - to buy his book, he exits the
stage and the light that brought him into existence fades.

As soon as he steps down, T.D. Jakes, one of the world's most


influential men, takes the stage. As he climbs up the podium,
the silence in the room gives way to thunderous cheering and
clapping.

MY FRIEND BAYO

When Bayo was in primary school, he had a very bad habit that
fascinated me at that time.

Bayo just had a love for imitating the handwriting of our fellow
classmates. He would see someone's writing and if he liked it,
he would go ahead to mimic it and then master it. After a while,
he would toss it and move on to another that captured his
attention.

Bayo's books were a mess. If I showed you the books, you would
think that different people were going to school every day with
his books. He was really undecided on which one to stick to.
Above all, Bayo’s father was thoroughly pissed by this habit.

Sadly, this is where many of the folks who are trying so hard to
profit from their passions are at. They're echoing a myriad of

Emeka Nobis paints a picture that captures the very importance


of this chapter in his book, “Grow Your Platform”.

A tells you that on Sundays he pastors a church. On Mondays, he
spends 5 hours at a teaching hospital and 3 hours at his clinic. On
Tuesdays, he goes to play golf because he's a pro golfer. On
Wednesdays, he plays with his gang in a nightclub. On Thursdays, he
goes to the writing club where he teaches the History of Egyptian
Culture. On Fridays, he plays for his football club and on Saturdays,
he travels out of town to go meet with his real estate agents who
overlook his real estate business.”

“While Doctor B tells you in one sentence, 'I'm a cardiologist. I work on


hearts 24/7. That's what I love and that's what I do.’”

“Sincerely speaking, of the two, whom will you choose? I guess that

your answer is obvious.”

If 5 people sit in an office and want to decide whom to call to


facilitate a retreat on stress and health, will they call you if they
see that you're like Doctor A above?

If people hear your name, what should they immediately think


of without scratching their heads for 5 minutes?

To be influential, the first thing is to define your path; define


your message!

GAINING CLARITY

What message will you be sharing so that people will know you
for something? Let me help you to define what your message
should be about.

By answering the questions below, you'll discover exactly


whom you're called to help, how best to serve them with your
gifts, experiences, expertise and knowledge and how your
message will do the work of transformation in their lives. Here

1. What people or causes do you find yourself naturally drawn

2. What comes to you easily that you take for granted, but
others find it difficult to do?

3. What do you find yourself consistently teaching, explaining


to others or sharing with them and you don't bat an eyelid
doing so?

4. Who are you most passionate about helping?

5. What do you think will happen in the lives of the people


you're trying to help if they took in your message?

By answering these questions, the fog will begin to clear and


you'll discover your own goldmine that will attract “investors”
to pay you to mine your gold.

I totally understand how you feel but it is one thing to have


multiple interests and it is another thing to throw them all at
once in the face of your target audience.

Pay close attention to jugglers and you will notice that they
usually start with just one ball in hand. After throwing up that
one ball, they add a second ball, then a third and a fourth and
probably a fifth simultaneously.

Why do they do this? Because they understand that if they try


to juggle all 5 balls at once, everything will come crashing
down.

The same thing happens when potential clients come in


contact with your brand; they come as jugglers. If you throw
five things at them at once, they would view your brand as
distorted and not worthy of any attention.

I am not saying you should throw your interests away. All I am


saying is to start with one interest at a time. Get people to
know, like and trust you doing this one thing over a long
period. Once you have established yourself as an authority
figure in this niche, you can then go ahead to add a second

interest and maybe a third interest.

GETTING STARTED

So where do you stand? Where do you start and how do you


start to even get branded?

Every one of us has been given a special turf in this world.


Some can sing, others can really sing. Some can cook, but
others can really cook. Some can talk, and again, others can
really talk.

Finding your strength requires you to follow the path that


allows you to do what you do effortlessly. For only this will
cause the world to spend their hard-earned money to come to
watch you perform.

So the big question here is, what are you good at? What can you
do so well that you get applauded and celebrated for? What do
your friends always come to you for and yes, you always offer
advice that works 99% of the time?

The world is sick of people trying to be like other people. The

world now wants people being themselves because it is only

What are some of the things that make you stand out as a
person? As a matter of fact, you might have overlooked these
things and have been drawn in by this world to shut out your
gifts and act by societal standards.

The first step to branding yourself is figuring out what you


want to be known for. Remember, clarity is like good wine to
the heart, it will keep it pumping and alive.

Answering the question of what you want to be known for is


like playing the game from the end – it's called reverse
engineering. It's like seeing YOU at the age of 70 as the world's
famous fashion designer and starting now to act like that
person – the world's famous fashion designer.

So here and now, I beseech you to ask yourself what you want
to be known for because this is the start needed for a life of
meaning, wealth and unending influence.

One major reason why most people are not profiting from
their gifts, experiences, expertise and knowledge is that they
are yet to get serious with their passions; they are yet to see it

WHAT IS BUSINESS?

I love the way the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it; “A


business is an activity of making, buying, or selling goods or
providing services in exchange for money.”

Another dictionary defines business as: “A person's regular


occupation, profession or trade.”

You are already in business and you need to treat your passion
as such.

FINDING YOUR PROFITABLE IDEA

Alright, so you slept and woke up with an idea right? You feel

You've juggled it back and forth in your mind and you can see

sell when it eventually hits the ground and won't be another

world, unfortunately, half of those businesses go under before
they even turn 5 years.

So this recent concept of yours, how can you succeed at it and


get so many people queuing to buy it?

I'll share with you some tricks and turns you can use to
immediately generate tons of ideas from your passion that
people will gladly pay you for.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Finding an idea is different from finding a profitable idea. The


former, is simply a thought, while the latter is a validated
thought. The former just bounce around in your head, while

Finding a profitable idea is as crucial and important as the


millions that idea is pregnant with.

“Instead of asking 'what problem should I solve?' ask 'what problems


do I wish someone could solve for me?” - Paul Graham.

WHAT IS A PROFITABLE IDEA?

Simply put, a profitable idea is a solution to a problem or pain


experienced by someone or people ready to pay you all of their
earnings if possible, just to fix that pain that they feel.

A profitable idea meets a demand, solves a problem and


makes the lives of people easy. If packaged properly, this idea
could get you heard and paid according to your terms.

HOW TO GENERATE A PROFITABLE IDEA

1. Validate Your Idea

First, you must determine if your market even exists. Are there

people that want what you are about to create?

One way I do this is by informing people about my product(s)


as if it's already in existence. I listen to their feedback and
boom… if I receive positive feedback, I know I have a good
thing going. So I launch and sell.

2. Look For The Pain

Concentrate on the area your target market is struggling in


and craft a killer solution that helps. This will require you
identifying a painful problem, documenting it and defining it.

Once you have done this, your mind will start flooding with
ideas for you to solve their problems.

3. Find The Gap

Here, you need to ask yourself “What is missing?” What are


people wishing for and why aren't they having it? Try putting
yourself in their shoes to experience what they experience
daily.

To find a profitable idea, you need to understand the user; your

f you want to succeed in any business, you need to choose
the right market and the right niche to focus on.

WHAT IS A NICHE?

To explain that, I need to explain first what a “market” is. A


market is a group of people who make purchases. For
example, the female market consists of females who make
purchases. The male market consists of males who buy things.

Generally, those are the two broad markets available. Now


niches are segments or sub-groups of people within a market.
For example, let's say your business is to sell baby food. Who
should you sell it to?

The male market or the female market? If you chose the female
market, you're correct, it is women who usually care about
baby food.

But does this mean that you should start marketing your baby
food to any woman you see? Absolutely not and here's why.

Not all women care about baby food. Some are unmarried,

some have no kids, and others may not care about having any.
Some are married but don't care about baby food either
because their children are all grown up and don't need it. The
only women who care about baby food are married women
who have children who are below three years old.

See how better this is?

Now instead of trying to convince all women in Nigeria that


your baby food is the best thing since SMA Infant Formula
Milk, you can concentrate on only finding mothers whose
children are three years old and below and talk only to them.

This makes marketing cheaper, saves time, and gets you to sell
more because you're talking only to the people who want what
you have.

So the lesson for you here is whatever your passion or idea is, it
must cater to a segment of a larger market. Therefore, clarity is
very important.

If you don't know the group of people you will be selling to


within your target market, then you will fail. If you don't have

or aren't in the right business niche, it is almost impossible to


make money and succeed.

You want to make sure that your business, which revolves


around your passion, is set up to sell something that people
already want to buy! But how do you know how to identify
niches within a broad market?

Here are three questions you must ask yourself before you
decide to enter and sell your products or services to a
particular market niche.

1. Are the people in my target niche market motivated by


pain and urgency or irrational passion?

If they are not already motivated, then it's probably not a good
niche to pursue.

2. Is my prospect or target customer pro-actively looking


for a solution?

Why do we need them to be pro-actively looking for a solution?


Because if they are not looking for a solution, we would need to

tough and frustrating. It's not the kind of thing you want to do.

It's not the sort of thing successful business people do.

The key here is to look for customers who are looking for you
and what you have to offer. Don't look for customers who you

If your customer has lots of options, then you're playing the


competition game. You're competing on price. You'll be caught

voice call. Ask them what they want. Ask them what their
biggest problems and frustrations are.

Ask them what their biggest wants and aspirations are. Ask
them what they are doing to solve their problems. Ask them
what they have tried and it didn't work. Ask them what they
think the solution is. Ask them what they want their outcome
to look like.

Talk to 5-10 people per day for a week. Get inside their head
and figure out what they have going on. You will be shocked at
how much you'll learn. You will know if they are motivated by
pain and urgency or irrational passion. You will know if they
are pro-actively looking for a solution and… You will know if
they have few or no perceived options available to them.

Then compare everything with what you're planning to put out
