Candy Option (Partner Work Only):

Plan a model key.

Check in their key to get the supplies needed to build the model.

Model and Key must include major components of DNA structure (5 total):

1. All 4 base letters w/ their correct pairs (Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, and Cytosine)

2. The sugar-phosphate backbone

Each model should have 10 base pairs (20 letters), the pairs must be correct.

Each base letter should be represented by a different color gummy bear.

Each model should have a sugar phosphate backbone for each base pair.

The model should be neat and should follow the rubric provided on google classroom.

Each group will only receive the exact amount of candy to complete the required numbers of

base pairs. If any base pairs are missing, points will be taken off according to the rubric.

Paper/Pipe Cleaner Option:

Using the pipe cleaner and a three hole punch, attach the base letter onto the sides of the pipe

cleaners, make sure the base letters lineup and match with their bases. Attach the phosphate

and sugar paper to the outside of the pipe cleaners.

Online Option:

The online option can be on any platform you decide (google docs, microsoft art, etc). It must

include the major components listed below.

● Each base letter should be represented by a different shape or color of your choosing

which is already labeled.

● Make a key for the model.

● The model should be understandable and should follow the rubric provided on google

classroom.
