information in unprecedented ways and at unprecedented rates. Such developments
have far-reaching ramifications for education, assessment, professional development,

evolve in the next years, necessitating the acquisition of new literacies in order to fully

already widespread in our students' life include search engines, webpages, e-mail,
instant messaging (IM), blogs, podcasts, e-books, wikis, nings, YouTube, video, and
many more. Each new ICT that arises and evolves necessitates the acquisition of new
literacy skills and practices. Literacy instructors have a responsibility to incorporate
these new literacies into the curriculum in order to prepare students for successful civic
participation in a global world.
