Gun Control

Gun control is a contentious issue because, although firearms can be used for leisure, they

can also do significant harm. Many innocent lives have been lost as a result of guns falling into

the wrong hands over the years. Should new gun control laws be passed, is the question we all

ask. Most people seem to be supportive of the few gun control laws we have. Some people even

believe that we should have newer, more strict laws. Paul Helmke writes about gun violence in

his article Targeting Gun Violence, and states that “there are very few federal laws restricting

access to guns, and those have serious loopholes” (551). Enforcing gun control can lower firearm

related deaths, domestic violence, and increase public confidence.
