Clemson University Water Testing

Issues with pH of Clemson University Campus Water

Dear Clemson Water and Waste ManagementWater and Waste Management,

I am writing to you from the Clemson University Health Department. This semester there has
been a decrease in academic achievement of Clemson students. As Clemson students, you are
expected to uphold the highest level of academia. Clemson faculty and officials are reaching out
to the students with some tips and ways we want to help. This semester we have had issues
with Clemson Water and Waste Management failing to meet the test standards. Your team is
responsible for testing the water to ensure it is up to our health code standards.

The first tip of the year is that our students should be drinking more water. “Dehydration can
affect concentration, alertness, and short-term memory, and can cause fatigue” (Williams
2017).Our records indicate that the pH of Clemson University campus buildings is below what it
should be at. This is a serious concern for everyone that uses Clemson’s campus.

When asking Clemson students how often they drink water, the most common answer was 2-3
glasses a day. Doctors recommend drinking 8 glasses of water every day, at least. To fix this
water pH problem, we suggest that you increase the number of water tests conducted in a
semester. We also suggest you look at the waste management on campus to ensure this is not
impacting the pH of the water.

Water can dramatically improve brain function, leading to better grades. Clemson students are
capable of amazing things. Let’s get back on track Tigers!Thank you for your time. This is a
serious matter and should be fixed as soon as possible. Contact us back at
clemsonhealth@g.clemson.edu when the matter is resolved.
