Document Development Exposition: Workplace Correspondence

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
While planning this project, I tried to come up with a realistic scenario that I could write about
effectively. I chose snake persecution because it is a real problem that I am interested in. Because
the main contributor to this problem is ignorance and lack of awareness, I decided to make snake
awareness the main theme of my workplace correspondence. Because people who work for wildlife
agencies are usually knowledgeable about animals such as snakes, I decided to make outreach and
education the future direction or recommendation.

First Draft (for peer editing)

When writing my first draft, I focused on getting relevant information and translating that to
effective and clear writing. I decided to split the information into three sections. I did this because
there were multiple aspects to the issue that I wanted to address. The main challenge that I faced
while writing my first draft was finding describing actions that could be taken to resolve the problem.
There wasn’t really a step-by-step process that I had in mind. I decided to make the solution a
somewhat vague mix of public outreach and social media posts.

Second Draft (for your packet)

The peer reviews that I received for this project were very helpful. I mainly got comments about the
formatting of my document. I took some of my classmates’ suggestions and made some minor
changes to the formatting but did not change the overall content.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

I made all the formatting changes that you suggested for this document. However, I found the
suggestion to include more of a step-by-step process to be somewhat challenging. I decided to be
more specific about the social media platforms I wanted to post to and added the step of surveying
South Carolina residents to see if their opinions of snakes have changed at all.
