Subject: Starting a Recycling Program

Dear Principal of Hillcrest High School,

Many people across the world are becoming more concerned with pollution ending up in our
oceans. One way we can help prevent this is by recycling right here at home. It has come to my
attention that our school does not have recycling programs implemented.

The problem is that schools, especially high schools, create a large amount of waste and it is
ending up in places it shouldn’t and is creating a real problem our world is facing, mainly our
oceans. In our oceans there is an estimated 269,000 tons of waste floating on the surface.
While there are many organizations working to help clean this up, it is up to us at home to help
prevent this from getting worse and one way we can do it is by recycling more.

It will take some work to get the recycling program implemented, but once it is it will take off.
There are many ways we can get the recycling program implemented into our school. I have
added some websites here that show the benefits of adding a recycling program into the school
and several different ways of starting one here.

It is important for us to show our students that recycling is an easy thing to do and let them
know the benefits that it will have on their future. I would like to set up a meeting with you and
correspond on establishing a successful program that will be in place for many years to come.
You can contact me at any time through my email, klseile@g.clemson.edu, and we can discuss
what meeting times would work best.

Thank you,
