I. Essay (15pts each)

1. What moves has the Philippine government taken to ensure equitable access to
education for all its citizens?
 The policy involved five key thrusts: school-based management; the
development of teacher education; national learning strategies; quality
assurance and accountability; and changes to the administration of DepEd,
using the latest technology to ensure more effective use of resources, whether
staff or funds.

2. Poverty is ranked #4 among the top 10 issues cited by World Economic Forum’s
Global Shapers Survey in 2017. Education is supposed to liberate people from
poverty. The Philippines has a comparatively higher literacy rate. Based on the
Literacy Statistics, Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey
(FLEMMS) of 2013, 96.5 percent of Filipinos were literate, an improvement from
95.6 percent in 2008. How come the Philippines has one of the highest numbers of
educated people and yet we remain to be “islands of affluence amidst a sea of poverty"
meaning poverty abounds? Can this be traced to the poor quality of Philippine
education? Why or why not?
 There are many and varied reasons as to why our country is like that. It is unfair
to put the blame only on the education system. I would say that the literacy rate
is not always a good determining factor. Yes, you are considered literate if you
can read and write, but can you always understand what you read and write?
Income inequality also correlates with educational inequality. The difference
between the poor and the rich is only getting bigger, and no amount of
educational funding can solve this. The problem lies in the corrupted sectors of
the government that hinders development, particularly in the local governments,
where nepotism is, sadly, encouraged by our Filipino family values.

Essay/Reflection (15pts each)

1. School and community partnership enhances the sense of ownership and sense of
belonging. What do these mean? How will these impact schools and communities?
 What this means for me is that the relationship between the school and the
community is effective because if one of the two has issues it will not be a good
feeling of belonging and a sense of belonging. Because only the community will be
the best partner of the school and only the community can learn the attitudes of the
child who will be taken or brought to school or where to go. And the school will be
the second home of the students because the school will be filled with lessons that
have not been taught in the community.

2. In what way you are involved in school and community partnerships? What good have
you done to the school and the community? What else can you do?
 As a college student or future educator I work with the school and community as a
good member and follower to be an example to other youth. At school, I can help as
a good student, even if I’m not smart or always active, it’s important for me to be
able to do all my tasks/activities.
As a student, the good I have done is enough for me to complete all my tasks. And
as an aunt/sister, it’s enough for me to teach my nephews/cousins their school
works.
As a future educator, maybe the things I can do one day I will be able to do
everything others can do because I am still weak or incapable. I am weak right now
but the time will come when I will be able to help a lot in school and the
community.

3. What sociological reality in the Philippines and the world demand that schools partner
with the community (Church, mass media, business establishments, etc.) for the education
of children?
 As a future educator family and community participation can contribute to the quality of
schools guidance programs and students ’attitudes and behaviors. Because school
guidance and support services are stronger and better serve students when educators,
students, and families are well connected with children.
