Ralph Natural leader (Democratic/Fair)


Represents leadership, the properly socialised
and civilised young man
He is attractive and charismatic
Over time, he starts to lose his power (signified
by his loss of verbal ability)
Yet he is still a conceptual thinker
Infected by the savagery of the other boys
Jack Natural leader (Draconian/Dictator)
Represents evil and violence, the dark side of
human nature.
Main interest: Hunting (Having fun)
The conflict begins with jack attempting to
dominate the group for his own good.
Rule/order is a tool to manipulate the society and
make sure he is in the powerful position

Piggy Represents intellect and rationalism.


Independent and thoughtful
Piggy’s death suggests that the rationalism
vulnerable to brutality.

Roger Roger represents sadism.


He’s a “terror”
Cruelty and desire for violence/power are lurking
inside him

Simon Simon symbolises goodness.


Against the idea of evil, Simon represents a
contrary idea of essential human goodness
He consistently faces struggles but overcome
them with his innate goodness embodied in the
figure of Christ.
