Essay 2 Reflection Questions

1. What did you learn in the first essay that you used in the second essay? What

did you learn in another class that you used in this second essay? Give examples,

explain, and be specific.

I did not learn anything in my first essay that I used in my 2 nd essay. However, I learned

how to use a peer review article in my essays and implemented quotations which I used

within my essay. For example, “…long waiting lists for CBT may worsen symptoms and

long-term prognosis.” (M. Henriksson et al., 27). “There is evidence that engagement in

certain lifestyle activities [(exercise, social interaction, and spending time outside)] are

associated with fewer symptoms and enhanced quality of life…” (B. Holt-Gosselin et al.,

367).” I used this quotation to introduce the topic of discussion and introduce some of the

perspectives within the essay.

I have not learned anything else from other classes that are/is applicable in 1302.
2. What did you learn in essay 1 that you did not use/was not applicable to essay 2?

What did you learn in another class that you did not use/was not applicable to

this second essay? Give examples, explain, and be specific.

I did not learn anything going from Essay 1 to Essay 2, nor did I learn anything from

other classes that was not applied in the essay.

3. What did you learn in the second essay that can be applied in other courses?

Give examples, explain, and be specific.

I learned how to write and implement an annotated bibliography into an essay in my 2 nd

essay. For example, “The authors, Holly J. Baker, Peter J. Lawrence, Jessica Karalus,

Cathy Creswell, and Polly Waite examine how effective psychological therapy is in

reducing anxiety disorder symptoms and remission from primary anxiety disorders. They

also examine and compare data from multiple sets of databases over 2 decades to

evaluate what psychological therapies are more effective in treating anxiety disorders to

reach their main points. In all, they examined over 26 studies of symptom severity

outcomes, analyses of diagnostic remission outcomes, post treatment, and remission from

primary anxiety disorder. Through examination of the results from the completed study

they are used to assess the best psychological therapy to use when trying to reduce

anxiety within individuals. It is implemented for use of comparisons between the coping

mechanisms available to individuals.” I can use thsis for my annotated bibliography

assignment in UNIV 1302 wherein I have to make an annotated bibliography for a project

assignment.
4. What do you think you learned in the second essay that will not be applicable to

other classes? Give examples, explain, and be specific.

Honestly, it would be the same thing I learned, an annotated bibliography would not be

applicable towards my economics class due to not being a writing or even an assignment-

based class. For example, economics is mainly based on research reading assignments, so

no writing will be necessary for the classroom.

5. How does the creation of an annotated bibliography and research analysis essay

help you improve your writing, in general? How will it help you approach

writing tasks in the future? Give examples, explain, and be specific.

I believe it will help not with writing, but for research purposes and implantation into

other assignments. Or even research into some personal hobbies that will help ensure

there is proper information out there. For example, searching for a scholarly article, and

then having to implement that into my own research to better explain and show the

argument to a case. In addition, it makes having to ensure there is no lack of data easier

as there is less going back and forth to ensure the data is under proper academic research

and all research is under an annotated bibliography my making.

6. From the comments you received from the readers of your essay, what are your

writing strengths? Writing weaknesses? Are these weaknesses and strengths the

same or different from the weaknesses and strengths that you had in the first

essay? 1301? How so? Give examples, explain, and be specific. Remember,

grammar is neither a strength nor weakness.

From my instructor I learned that I was having a hard time writing a research-based essay

with multiple perspective without including my own opinions or ideas. For example, in

the first essay I was always putting in some personal thought or opinion and using this to

make a research-based writing about the effectiveness of coping mechanisms. However, I

was able to fix this issue and implemented the research, ideas, claims, and opinions of the

researchers within the essay making it more effective than before.

7. From my comments as a reader of your first essay, what do you think my

comments to you will be on your second essay? What will be different? What

will be the same? Give examples, explain, and be specific.

I feel personally that the comments that would mention something I am still missing for

this essay, because of the comments from the 2nd draft for the 2nd essay. For example, the

comments for the second draft stated “Also, the paper is not delivering a research

analysis but a position paper.” Which shows my weakness in understanding the material

for this essay, however, I am hoping that I have fixed or slightly corrected this issue

making it more of a research analysis paper. Which is kind of why I believe that the

comments on my first essay are not important in my wishful thinking for this essay.
8. What was the most challenging aspect of this Unit? Least challenging? Give

examples, explain, and be specific.

I believe the most challenging aspects of this paper were writing the annotated

bibliography for the paper which was difficult in the first part due to having to read over

10 sources for the annotated section of the essay. On the other hand, another difficult

section of the essay was trying to deliver a more research analysis view for the paper than

a position paper, which I felt I still struggled a bit in. For example, throughout the paper

in the 2nd draft I was not properly implementing the views of the researchers who were

included in my annotated bibliography and instead used their quotations as a source for a

personal position.
