It is my pleasure to recommend Carolina Hinojosa for a teaching position.
Carolina was my student in two English Education methods courses, and she stood out among her peers as a leader.
Carolina is passionate about education, specifically about becoming an
educator who rejects deficit discourses and embraces students’ diversity as an asset. In my classes she spoke and wrote about her experiences being marginalized by educators; Carolina will not be an educator who marginalizes her students. She understands the importance of Social Emotional Learning and culturally responsive pedagogy, and her lesson plans consistently showcase her ability to target academic skills alongside holistic growth.
I have always been impressed with Carolina’s intellectual curiosity, her
willingness to ask questions, and her receptiveness to feedback. Carolina will thrive in a collaborative school culture and will be eager to learn from her colleagues. Even as a new teacher, I expect she will emerge as a leader because of her work ethic and initiative.
While Carolina’s path to teaching was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic,
she gained valuable experience using technology for collaboration. For example, she provided asynchronous feedback to student writers at two high schools in a range of writing tasks, as well as tutored college students in live, remote sessions. She learned tools for student engagement, such as PearDeck and Jamboard, that are useful in face-to-face settings. During field experience prior to the pandemic, her cooperating teacher contacted me to praise Carolina’s interactions with students.
In conclusion, I fully support Carolina Hinojosa’s employment as a teacher. In
my years as a teacher educator, Carolina stands out as one of my top students. I believe she will be a great addition to your school community.
Sincerely,
