INTRODUCTION

• IN THIS UNIT, THE DIMENSIONS OF CREATING, MAKING, EXPLORING AND RESPONDING ARE ALL ADDRESSED.
• STUDENTS DISCUSS, INVESTIGATE AND EVALUATE HOW MUSIC IS USED TO ENHANCE VISUAL MEDIA, IN
PARTICULAR FOR THEIR ‘NEED FOR SPEED’ PRESENTATION
• STUDENTS EXPLORE HOW THE MUSIC IS USED TO CREATE LAYERS OF MEANING AND TO MANIPULATE THEIR
VIEWER IN A VARIETY OF EXISTING ADVERTISEMENTS.
• THEY WILL USE APPROPRIATE MUSIC TERMINOLOGY TO DISCUSS AND ANALYSE THE MUSIC COMPONENTS,
AND HOW THESE COMPONENTS SUPPORT BOTH THE EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT MEANINGS OF THE
ADVERTISEMENTS.
• THEY WILL APPLY THIS KNOWLEDGE BY CREATING A NUMBER OF ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACKS FOR AN
ADVERTISEMENT AND BY ANALYSING AND EVALUATING THEIR OWN SOUNDTRACKS.
