INTERVIEW TIPS

TECHNICAL ASPECTS
The team will explore your depth and breadth across several IT domains.  Here are some of the key
areas to focus on as you prepare:
 The team will explore and dive into your top 3-5 areas of depth and gauge breadth across
Infrastructure (Networking, Storage, Database, and Compute) and application and system design
on cloud platforms.
 Familiarity with emerging technologies; how are you staying on top of industry trends?
 Cloud computing - to give you a better understanding of AWS, our offerings, and cloud
computing, take some time to familiarize yourself with the questions below. 
o   How would you describe the cloud value proposition?
o   What is Cloud Computing? 
o   AWS Whitepapers

LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES
Our 14 Leadership Principles are the fabric that make up Amazon’s culture. They’re also heavily relied
upon in the interview process. This will be the core area of onsite and about 1/3 of the focus for the first
video conversation. Consider how each principle relates to the Solutions Architect role here at AWS.

 It is recommended that you use the STAR method when preparing your examples as we model
our evaluations off of this – we want the full story as to how you have and would approach a
situation. It is not required to go through this for each example, but rather a way to help you
prepare. (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

GENERAL TIPS
 Brush up on the basics – I suspect Glassdoor has some example questions you can look through.
 Please ask questions if you need clarification. We want the interview process to be
collaborative.
 We also want to learn what it would be like to work with you on a day-to-day basis in our open
environment. If you are asked a question, but not given enough information to provide an
answer, drill down to get the information that you need.

Express interest and enthusiasm - Please reflect on how you think a career with Amazon would be
mutually beneficial and be prepared to speak to it. Although “Why Amazon?” is a standard type of
question, it’s not a check-the-box type of formality for us: We genuinely want to understand how
working together with you would be great, so we get a better sense of who you are.
