Topic 3

1. Differentiate between Manchester encoding and Differential Manchester encoding in

terms of synchronization and bit representation.

2. The figure below shows the differential Manchester encoding of a data stream.
Determine the data stream.

3. The figure below shows the NRZ-L encoding of data stream. Determine the data
stream.

4. Encode bit stream 010101001 with the encoding below:

i. Manchester Encoding
ii. RZ

5. Draw a digital signal of a data stream 10011011 with the encoding below:
i. NRZ-L
ii. AMI

6. Draw a digital signal of a data stream 10110010 with the encoding below:
i. NRZ-I
ii. Differential Manchester

7. The most common technique to change digital data to analog signal is Pulse Code
Modulation (PCM). Explain with diagram the PCM processes.

8. Using the Nyquist theorem, calculate the minimum sampling rate for an analog signal
with frequencies from 2500 to 8200 Hz and find its bit rate, assuming 4 bits per sample.

9. If the interval between two samples in a digitized signal is 125s, what is the sampling
rate? Given that 8 bits per sample, calculate the bit rate and write your answer in kbps.
