Personal Belief Statement

Caring for people and helping others get better has always been something that I have

enjoyed doing. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be able to make a difference in the

lives of others, big or small, and that my place was in a helping and caring profession. Physical

therapy has allowed me to do just that and that is why I decided to become a PTA. The

profession of physical therapy allows me to express my compassion by allowing me to

demonstrate altruism in every relationship I have built. In this profession, I am provided with

these opportunities on a daily basis. The values of this profession align well with my own

personal values and also allow me to further shape these values through clinical experiences.

Altruism is a core value that resonates with me the most because it brings me to always

place the patient first. Their needs and interest will always come first whenever I am in a room

with a patient. Altruism is a core value that I can practice every day during an interaction with a

patient because I will assure that their needs and interest will always come first in every session.

Compassion and caring is another core value in the physical therapy profession that

aligns well with my own personal values. Compassion and care towards other people regardless

of where they come from. This can come in the forms of communicating effectively when there

are language barriers, being an advocate for the patient’s needs, designing interventions that are

congruent with patient needs, and focusing on maximizing functional mobility.

Becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant will allow me to help people return back to their

activities of daily life in a safe and healthy matter. I hope to draw on the knowledge that I have

occurred during my academic and clinical experience over the last two years and always strive to

be the best clinical for the benefit of my future patients.
