Get out instruments, stands, and books
Theory lesson (20 minutes) o THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON THIS TOMORROW o Quick review of order of flats Have students call out mnemonic, but only write note names (black with red arrow and red flats) Review how to find flat keys 2 examples Use F as an example to show going all the way back with order of flats o Quick review of order of sharps “What’s the easiest way to remember?” Go over mnemonic, draw blue arrow and blue sharps If you can remember one mnemonic better than the other, use that and reverse the order o Learn about enharmonic notes o Finding sharp keys Give 2 examples o 10 examples (1 for each student) Everyone get out a sheet of paper and label 1-10 One example at a time on smart board Go down the line for answering o Example of key signature and accidentals Point to notes first to ask what they are What key are we in? Demonstrate reading with Major Corey :) Warm up (10 minutes) o With breath only on instruments (quickly) In 4 out 4 In 2 out 4 In 1 out 4 o First notes (10 minutes) With instruments, sustain (in time) one measure each of whole note, then rest, the half notes, then rest, then quarter notes, then back up Major Corey’s warm up On dotted quarter + eighth rhythm Up and down Emphasize clear articulations and BIG BREATHS Add fermata on end of exercise Essential Elements (55 minutes) o Review Number 28 Reinforce new note o Number 31 (15 minutes) Smooth, connected sound Clear articulations Confident fingers Get familiar with new note o Number 33 New note :) Reinforce fermata o Number 34 If you can, don’t breath until the rests Slow then fast o Number 30 Groups of 2 or 4 Play through with repeat Performing for class Percussion: accompaniment for both
