NUMERICALS

1. Volume of oil is 4.50 m3 with weight 39,000 N then nd speci c weight, De ne density
and speci c density.

2. Density of uid is 959.40 kg/m3. Shear stress at some point is 0.215 N/m2 and velocity
gradient is 0.215 s-1. Find kinematic viscosity.

3. Find dynamic viscosity of oil having 0.352 x 10-5 m2/s kinematic viscosity and 880 kg/
m3 density.

4. A simple mercury (sp.gr. 13.6) U-tube manometer is used to measure the pressure of oil
(sp.gr. 0.8) owing in a pipe. Its left end is connected to the pipe and mercury is 12 cm
below the centerline of the pipe. Its right end is open to the atmosphere. If the di erence
between levels of mercury in both ends is 32 cm. Find the pressure of oil in meters of water.
The pressure of oil is more than the atmosphere.

5. Simple U-tube manometer containing mercury was used to nd the pressure of oil
having a speci c density of 0.9. In the left limb the level of oil was 30 cm below the
centerline of the pipe and in the right limb mercury level was 45 cm above the center line
and the right limb is open to the atmosphere.

6. A pipe having diameter 30 cm at section-1 and 40 cm at section-2. If velocity at

section-1 is 5 m/s then nd the velocity at section-2 and ow rate through the pipe.

7. Determine the size of the pipe to carry 3000 lit/minute of water with maximum velocity
of 5 m/s.

8. Water ow rate is 140 lit/sec from the pipe and its diameter is 240 mm and pressure
generated is 440 kpa. If the datum height of the pipe is 100 m. Then nd out total energy.
