1. Pre-K/ CCSD K-2nd Grade/Nevada Core Standards:

H.1.PK.- Listen to stories of people and families around the world.

1.PK.1b- Select materials to use for individual expression.

2.K.3- With assistance, use after reading strategies based on text and purpose to orally recall
details; and orally restate main ideas.

2. Objectives:
SWBAT + Bloom’s verb

Students will be able to describe what their bed is made of and where they sleep.

Students will be able to recall facts of how other children around the world sleep.

Students will be able to design what their beds look like at home using a variety of materials.

3. Materials/Equipment:

- Playdough
- Fabric
- Pop cycle sticks
- Paper
- Crayons
- Markers
- Scissors

4. Teaching:
A. The plan for reading the book is to teach children culture and the ways
of sleeping around the world.

-Read story

-How would you like to fall asleep rocking on waves?

-Have you ever slept in a hammock?

-If you noticed in the story the Loft bed is built into a wall and has similarities to a bunkbed who
has a bunkbed they sleep on?

-Would you like to go to sleep with a wooden stove underneath you?

-Would you like to sleep on a roof top and watch the stars at night?

-Do you know what generation means?

B. Plan for extension activity:

Discuss what the students think about the other children’s beds around the world.

-Explain to the students that they will be using their Imagination by creating what their beds
look like at home and talk about where we sleep. Do we sleep in a bed that was passed down to
us , was it new, or do you share a bed with someone?

-Pass out all the materials playdough, markers, crayons, scissors, fabric. Allow the students 30
minutes to create their bed.

-Go around and ask each child about their bed and where they sleep, write it down on a piece of
paper to go with their bed.

-Have each child show their bed and talk about it and describe where they sleep .
5. Closure:

What did we learn about the different cultures around the world and how they sleep?

Do you remember what countries they talked about in the story and what they slept on?

What did you learn about your friends and what they sleep on or how they sleep?

Today we talked about different countries and how they sleep and where they sleep. Tomorrow
we will talk about if we had choices to sleep on a different bed, which bed from the story would
you pick?
