Winter wonderland fun comes to Paradise at Mount Rainier National Park

ASHFORD, Wash. (May 3, 2021) – During the winter season, the Paradise area of Mount
Rainier National Park allows visitors to participate in many activities including sledding, skiing,
snowboarding and ranger-guided snowshoe walks. These activities occur from late December
through the middle of March.

The snowplay area at Paradise — located to the north of the upper parking lot — is the
designated spot for visitors to sled. Visitors must use plastic sleds, inner tubes and saucers. No
hard toboggans or sleds are permitted.

Skiing and snowboarding are also approved activities within Paradise when adequate snowfall
has occurred.

Ranger-guided snowshoe walks offer the opportunity to learn about how plants, wildlife and
humans adapt to the winter changes at the park. The walks take place on Saturdays, Sundays and
holidays and begin at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Visitors can sign up for a walk up to one hour in
advance at the Jackson Visitor Center.

Park staff advises all visitors to dress appropriately for the weather.

Mount Rainier National Park is located in the southwestern region of Washington state and is the
nation’s fifth national park. The park was established in 1899 and covers 364 square miles of
land. For more information about the park, visit https://www.nps.gov/mora/index.htm.
