ADDITIVES FOR WATER-BASED SYSTEMS:

COATINGS, INKS, ADHESIVES AND BUILDING PRODUCTS
Münzing offers technical service testing to focus on solving customer
issues by duplicating the customer process and not by the generalization
of formulation characteristics. We employ a wide range of test methods
to reproduce the conditions that a coating experiences during
manufacturing, packaging and application.

Grinding Pigments

Defoamers are formulated to have controlled incompatibility in coatings, inks and adhesives.
This controlled incompatibility impacts the defoamer droplet size during initial dispersal and
the stability of those droplets during subsequent manufacturing, packaging and application steps.
Optimal defoamer selection requires an understanding of these steps to ensure that the defoamer
has the appropriate ease of incorporation and persistence to shear.

Insufficient dispersal of a defoamer, due to poor mixing or excessive incompatibility, results

in large defoamer droplets which may yield surface float or wetting defects upon application.
In the product matrices that follow, each defoamer is described by its ease of incorporation
in terms of high (H), medium (M) or low (L).

After initial dispersal, as the system is being packaged and applied, intense shearing or excessive
compatibility can further reduce the droplet size, eventually rendering them too small to be effective.
In the product matrices that follow, each defoamer is also described by its persistence to shear
in terms of high (H), medium (M) or low (L).
