Dear Dr.

Bruce

When deciding to take this class, my end goal was to further develop my abilities as an

English major and a writer. Throughout this semester I believe that I have been able to

continuously develop my skills as a writer. Your lessons and student learning outcomes have

helped me to become a better writer and to better understand the writing process. In order to

show my mastery of the six student learning outcomes, I have composed a portfolio that includes

works that highlight my progress as a writer throughout the semester.

The first document in this portfolio is the Irony Definition which showcases the Student

Learning Outcome of Rhetorical Analysis and Collaboration. The Outcome of Rhetorical

Analysis is shown to the specific needs of the reader shown throughout the paper. This definition

was written with the reader's needs in mind, and carefully defines the terms while following the

needs of the reader. The Outcome of Collaboration is shown through the unanimity of the

document's writings even though it was written by multiple people.

The second is the Definition Peer Review which completes the Student Learning

outcomes of Collaboration. This Outcome is shown through the insightful and specific critique

given to the fellow students in this course. The review given to their works highlights the

positives and negatives in their papers and gives them a way to fix it.

The third is Literary Analysis which highlights the Student Learning Outcomes of Ethical

Research and Persuasion. The Outcome of Ethical Research is shown through the appropriate

usage of MLA when needed. The Outcome of Persuasion is shown through the analysis backed

up by evidence throughout the paper.

The fourth is the Close Reading Paragraph which shows the Student Learning Outcome

of Persuasion. This is shown through the arguments and analysis provided throughout the

paragraph.

The last one is the Scholars Notebook #3 which completes the Student Learning Outcome

of Organization as well as Language and Design. These outcomes are shown through the

headings, dividers, alignment, consistent proximity, and language used throughout the paper.

These writings show how I have been able to develop my skills as a writer thus far.

Thanks,

Jane Paden
