Superlative Adjectives
[ We use Superlative Adjectives to compare 3 or more things,
people, places, animals, etc.
Example:
Brazil is the biggest country in South America.

[ The Superlative Adjectives change. There are 4 rules:

Rule 1: Adjectives with 1 syllable, add -EST


cold – the coldest short – the shortest big – the biggest

 The cheetah is the fastest animal in the world.


 Death Valley is the hottest place in the USA.

Rule 2: Adjectives ending in -Y change into -IEST.


heavy – the heaviest happy – the happiest easy – the easiest

 Running is the easiest sport.


 The blue whale is the heaviest animal in the sea.

Rule 3: Adjectives with 2 or more syllables add MOST before


the adjective.
expensive – the most expensive intelligent – the most intelligent

 The Bugatti is the most expensive car in the world.


 The dolphin is the most intelligent animal in the sea.
Rule 4: Irregular Adjectives change completely.
good – the best bad – the worst far – the furthest

 Messi is the best football player.


 Neptune is the furthest planet from the Sun.
