Comparative Adjectives
[ We use comparative adjectives to compare 2 things, people,
places, animals, etc.
Example:
A mouse is smaller than a cat.

[ When we compare, adjectives change. There are 4 rules:

Rule 1: Adjectives with 1 syllable, add -ER


cold – colder short – shorter big – bigger
fast – faster cheap – cheaper small – smaller

 The cheetah is faster than the lion.


 A TV is cheaper than a car.

Rule 2: Adjectives ending in -Y change into -IER.


funny – funnier happy – happier easy – easier
crazy – crazier pretty – prettier busy – busier

 A clown is funnier than a magician.


 Art is easier than a car.

Rule 3: Adjectives with 2 or more syllables add MORE before


the adjective.
expensive – more expensive intelligent – more intelligent
beautiful – more beautiful difficult – more difficult
 A laptop is more expensive than a walkie-talkie.
 Fire is more dangerous than a paper.

Rule 4: Irregular Adjectives change completely.


good – better bad – worse far – further

 Staying at home is better than going shopping.


 Coronavirus is worse than a cold.
