Introduction
The Daikin EWAD370TZ-SS screw unit which has been ordered for the,

is to be tested at the Daikin manufacturing plant located in Cecchina, Italy
The testing will be carried out to verify thermal performance of one of the units as follows:
Cooling thermal performance @ 100% load @ ELWT = 12.2/6.7°C, OAT = 38.8°C
‘The units ordered for this project are from the EWAD...TZ-SS range of a/c screw compressor chillers,
WT procedures will be carried out @ constant flow 15.4 l/s, according to above design conditions
A data sheet at full load for this unit is included within this method statement (at page V)
The following actions are carried out prior to the witness test taking place and are not witnessed by
the client. These do not form part of the witness test criteria and are included here for information
purposes only.
Electrical Connections:
Water Connections:
The power supply is connected, and an electrical check carried
‘out on all sensors, heaters and thermostats. This will also
include fuse ratings and overload settings. A final check is also
made on the fans to ensure correct rotation. (Not witnessed).
The unit electrical supply will be de-isolated and switched back
on. This will allow the crankcase heaters to come on and the
refrigerant liquid in the compressor(s) to be boiled off. (Not
witnessed)
Inlet / Outlet connections of the evaporator are connected to the
test bench by means of victaulic couplings and flexible piping.
(Not witnessed).
For a witness test at specific design ambient conditions, the unit is
tested inside our Thermal Chamber. This facility has been
designed to accurately simulate, if possible, the on site ambient
conditions.
The ambient temperature is controlled by five sets of louvres
moved by electrical actuators.
The chiller is placed into the chamber and the evaporator is
connected to the test stand plant; after having enclosed the unit
inside the chamber with a door, the chiller is started up and the air
ambient temperature increases thanks to the heat rejected by the
condenser coils. The same is constantly controlled through
temperature sensors located around the chiller.

The compressors will be allowed to start from the unit controls and will load automatically to full load.
Once a stable load is established the following measurements will be taken and witnessed by the
client representatives.

Cooling Capacity
To be calculated using the specified water flow and the relevant measured At, with the following
formula; CC(kW) = 4.186 FR(I/s)x ATCC)
Ambient temperature shall be measured at various points around the unit (depending on the length of
the machine) and the average ambient condition will be recorded. The unit cooling capacity will be
calculated using the specified water flow, specific heat capacity and the relevant measured At.
Readings will be taken every 5 minutes and the unit performance data recorded in the test sheet
(copy attached). After the 6" reading the results will be averaged and recorded
The unit Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) is calculated by dividing the cooling capacity by the total unit
power input, both recorded on the test sheet.

Testing of Safety Functions
Once all the measurements have been taken and recorded, the safety devices and alarms
(below) are checked and the following conditions simulated to ensure safety controls perform
correctly.
Loss of water flow across the evaporator — chilled water flow switches are not fitted at the
test bench. To achieve a similar condition relevant cables are connected to the electrical control
panel. To simulate the flow switch under no flow condition, the bridge is disconnected. On start
Up if the flow switch is open the alarm prevents the unit to start. If the unit is operating when the
flow switch intervenes, the shut down procedure is immediately activated. Both alarms are
displayed
High pressure alarm - This test is carried out for each circuit. To simulate the high pressure
condition the relevant fans are switched off. The compressors will shut down immediately and
the alarm displayed. Please note this test could encounter the following problems: Under
high pressure, the controller will try to unload the compressors to reduce head pressure. The
controller will not activate the pump down procedure. Whenever high pressure is reached, liquid
inside the evaporators and compressors must be eliminated before the chiller is restarted.
Demonstration of Controller
During and following the test, the Microtech controller & display will be demonstrated to show
interrogation of operating conditions etc. The Daikin technician will also demonstrate how
alarms (discussed above) are displayed and subsequently cleared. Please see addendum to
this method statement for description of controls and interfaces available — provided for
information only.
Notes
Evaporator water: Outlet chilled water temperature range is +4°C / 12°C
(ie: No possibility to test with glycol)
Ambient temperature: For acoustic tests, due to the need of free field conditions, the
ambient will be as prevailing at time of test which is normally late
evening in order to achieve a suitably low background noise level
General During the witness test, the chiller will be inspected for loose fittings
and for excess vibration. The external finish of the chiller will be
inspected and any damage to paintwork will be made good.
Please note that the temporary victaulic water connections to the test
stand may show signs of some water leakage - which is not
detrimental to testing.
