Etymology.

"Britain" comes from Latin: Britannia~Brittania, via Old French

Bretaigne and Middle English Breteyne, possibly influenced by Old English
Bryten(lond), probably also from Latin Brittania, ultimately an adaptation of
the Common Brittonic name for the island, Pritanī.

It is thought to relate to the Irish word cruth, meaning "form, figure,

shape". The name is believed to derive from Qritani, a Goidelic/Q-Celtic
version of the Brittonic/Proto-Celtic Pritani
