4. Direct Instruction (Define lesson step by step) 15 pts

Today we will be acting out what activities you would do in each season. This can be
what you do on your own during your free time or with your family or friends either inside or
outside. Now I would like everyone to split into four groups. Can anyone tell me why I am having
you split into four groups instead of three or five? (if no one can figure it out give hint:
remember, we are talking about the seasons) I have this box that has the fours seasons written
on a piece of paper in the box. I will choose one randomly and assign them to each of you.
(Start the process of picking one and giving each group a season). Now I want each of you to
discuss at least three activities that you would do in your season. It can be from the board or
one you thought on your own. (Give everyone time to think and discuss). Now I would everyone
to pay attention to these boxes. Inside of these boxes is different props for each of you to use
from clothing to toys. I will have each group come up here one at a time to pick a prop. I will
limit it to three each and if there are some left or if you need more than props, then I will allow
it. If the prop you want is not here, then I would like you to use your imagination and use
something else. Does anyone have any questions? (wait and answer any questions if any) I will
now demonstrate an example of how I would do it. (Act out an activity). Ok then, I would like
the Summer group to come here. (have everyone choose a prop and go back to their area). Now
the Spring group… (repeat until everyone has a prop). Now I will give you guys about five
minutes to go over how you would like to act out and present your prop. I would like it if
everyone did something. (Wait five minutes and help those who need it, if no one, asks for help,
then walk around observing everyone). Ok, everyone, time is up. I would like to go in order of
the seasons, starting from Spring, to Summer, to Fall, and then Winter. However, if a group
would like to go first, then I will allow it. (Wait to see if anyone volunteers). (Have every group
go one by one and everyone claps at the end. If there is time, rotate the seasons for each
group).

5. Guided Practice (Scaffolding/Questions: How will YOU participate in this lesson) 15 pts
● I will act out an example that will help them use their imaginations. I do not
expect them to see my example as something they should do because you
cannot put a limit on imagination.
● Go around to see if anyone needs help or would like me to take part in their
group
● Take part in the discussion at the beginning by saying my favorite season and
helping the students think of activities if stuck

6. What will you assess during this lesson? 10 pts

● Teamwork
● Observe how much effort was put into the acting
● Participation
● Creativity

7. Closing: (Answer the following questions) 25 points

List DAP principles that relate to this lesson.
Have you looked at inclusion? Culture? Is it planned well?
● DAP Principles
1. Play promotes joyful learning that fosters self-regulation,
language, cognitive and social competencies as well as content
knowledge across disciplines. Play is essential for all children, birth
through age 8.
2. Children are active learners from birth, constantly taking in and
organizing information to create meaning through their
relationships, their interactions with their environment, and their
overall experiences.
3. Children’s motivation to learn is increased when their learning
environment fosters their sense of belonging, purpose, and
agency. Curricula and teaching methods build on each child’s
assets by connecting their experiences in the school or learning
environment to their home and community settings.

● This lesson is planned well and it is inclusive. All students can do this because it is
encouraging them to play, ask questions, and work together as a team. Not
everyone does the same activities each season because not every country divides
its seasons into four sections. A student may not be used to it and know different
seasons so it is important to show the student how many seasons there are in
America and what can be done in each but make sure they do not forget where
they come from.
