To conduct plate load test over soil layer at the site of Construction of 4 lanning of Jind -Gohana-Sonipath (Pkg-1&2) Section (Greenfield Alignment) from Km. 0.000 to Km. 78.837 (Length 78.837 Km) Of NH-352 Ain the state of Haryana under NH (0) on hybrid annuity mode The job is to conduet safe bearing capacity by plate load test at site were awarded by M/s Brij Gopal Construction Co. Pvt, Ltd, at Construction of 4 lanning of Jind -Gohana-Sonipath (Pkg- 1&2) Section (Greenfield Alignment) from Km. 0.000 to Km, 78.837 (Length 78.837 Km) Of NH-352 A in the state of Haryana under NH (0) on hybrid annuity mode to M/s Balaji Scientific Laboratory, Faridabad (Haryana) 2. METHODOLOGY OF DETERMINING SAFE BEARING CAPACITY BY PLATE LOAD TEST The test is conducted as per IS-1888(1985) and is used to determine the ultimate bearing capacity of soil and settlement of foundation under the given load. To calculate safe bearing capacity suitable factor of safety is applied, 2.1 APPARATUS Loaded truck Hydraulic jack Rectangular plate 25 mm Dial gauge with 0.01 mm accuracy Two Datum bar rod Spirit level, plumb bob Pressure Gauge RPNNNONN N ie) PROCEDURE 2.2.1 A pit is made for each test whose depth is taken equal to near about the level of proposed foundation length and width taken about 5 times the size of plate. 2.2.2 A loaded truck will be used to give load to the plate. The load on rear wheels of truck should be 2.5 times the design load. . Page 2 Balaji Scientific Laboratories 2K-18 NIT FARIDABAD (HR) ‘The plate used for testing is of 45emX45emX2.5em. 2.2.4 The plate if firmly seated in the pit and if ground is uneven, a thin layer of sand is spread underneath the plate. 2.2.5 The seating load of will be applied which will be released before the actual test is started. 2.2.6 The load is applied with the help of a hydraulic jack with pumping unit and the load is measured with help of a 42 ton capacity pressure gauge with least count of | ton. 2.2.7. The load is applied in convenient increments i.e one fifth of expected safe bearing capacity or one tenth of ultimate bearing capacity. 2.2.8 Settlement of plate is observed by two dial gauges for each increment of load fixed diametrically opposite ends with sensitivity of 0.01 mm. 2.2.9 Settlement is observed for each increment of load after an interval of 0.25,1,2.25.4,6.25,9,16 and 25 min and thereafter at hourly’ intervals to the nearest 0.02 mm, 2.2.10 After this the next load increment is applied, 2.2.11 The load intensity and settlement observation of the plate load test will be plotted on log graph and result will be obtained, 2.2.12. To determine the safe bearing a factor of safety of 2.0 to 2.5 may be used on ultimate bearing capacity 2.3CALCULATION AND PLOTTING OF LOAD — SETTLEMENTRELATIONSHIPS 2.3.1 Load intensity in Ton/m2 vs settlement in mm for each increment is plotted.
