CAE Writing Part 2

Reports

An overview

● In part 2 of the CAE exam you must choose between writing a report, a proposal, a review,
or a letter. All of these text types must be written in 220-260 words.

● A report is a text type whose aim is to give factual information on a topic. In general, you
will be asked to include a recommendation/ suggestion, which will come at the end.

● You will be asked to do more than just describe a situation: you may be asked to evaluate to
what extent a particular aim has been achieved or suggest an alternative course of action.

● Depending on the intended reader, reports can be formal or a bit less formal.

● Remember: reports are divided by means of headings

● Support your ideas by means of reasons/ examples
