Hormonal feedback control of the adrenal

hormones

(1) Stimuli such as pain, stress (physical/psychological),

pyrogens, epinephrine, histamine, hypoglycemia, and
hypotonia cause the release of corticotropin-releasing
hormone (CRH) in the hypothalamus.

(2) In the anterior pituitary gland, CRH stimulates the

release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which
stimulates the secretion of glucocorticoids and androgens
in the adrenal cortex. Glucocorticoids inhibit the secretion
of CRH and ACTH via a negative feedback loop.
