FILIPINO

SCIENTIST/INVENTOR

DIOSDADO BANATAO
WHO IS DIOSDADO BANATAO?
 Diosdado P. Banatao (born May 23, 1946) is a Filipino
Philanthropist, entrepreneur and engineer working in the high-
tech industry, credited with having developed the first 10-Mbit
Ethernet CMOS with silicon coupler data-link control and
transceiver chip, the first system logic chip set for IBM's PC-XT
and the PC-AT, and the local bus concept and the first Windows
Graphics accelerator chip for personal computers. A three-time
start-up veteran, he co-founded Mostron, Chips and Technologies,
and S3 Graphics.
WHAT IS THE ESSENCE OF HIS INNOVATION IN
PHILIPPINE NATION BUILDING?

 GUI (Graphical User Interface) Banatao is most known for

introducing the first single-chip graphical user interface
accelerator that made computers work a lot faster and for
helping develop the Ethernet controller chip that made
Internet possible. He transformed the lives of many through
his invention of a computer part not only in the Philippines but
all throughout the globe.
THE CONTRIBUTION OF MICROCHIP IN PHILIPPINE
NATION BUILDING?

In 1989, he pioneered the local bus

concept for personal computers and in the
following year developed the First Windows
accelerator chip. Intel is now using the
chips and technologies developed by
Banatao. He transformed the lives of many
through his invention of a computer part
not only in the Philippines but all
throughout the globe and it’s still present in
every computer that we use today.
HOW DID HIS INVENTIONS IMPACTED THE SOCIETY?

 He is sometimes dubbed as the Bill Gates of the Philippines, Banatao

was able to make computers work a lot faster and more efficiently with
his inventions.
 But what’s more important is that these faster yet smaller microchips
he created enabled computers to become smaller, more compact, and
more affordable too. Thanks to his inventions, more people were able
to have personal computers at home.
 It is believed that Banatao’s inventions make up as much as 30% of
today’s computers.
