1 OUTLINE
The newly developed Type JB-DET engine is an in-line, four-cylinder, 660 cc, DOHC, 4-valve engine
which employs a timing chain mechanism by means of a silent chain.
In order to comply with strict exhaust emission standards in various countries, Type JB-DET engine has
employed the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), Electronic Spark Advance (ESA) and three-way catalyst.
Moreover, this engine has large-capacity canisters and an electronic purging type fuel evaporative
emission control device.
The Copen has two specifications; namely EU specification and Australian specification. The EU
specification has complied with the EU exhaust emission standard Step A (1999/102/EC). The Australian
specification has complied with the Australian exhaust emission standard (1996/69/EC; EU exhaust
emission standard Step @).
