For this month’s seminar, we had the opportunity to hear from two guest speakers. The
first guest speaker was Tracy Elmer who is the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) at TrueCare and
the second guest speaker was Jud Simonds who is the Ambulatory Nursing Director at Swedish
Medical Group. I enjoy when we get to hear from others their journey on how they got to the
position they are currently at. Like some other classmates, I do not come from a clinical
background, so hearing from someone like Tracy who had a similar background as I get to the
position, she is at today gives me a lot of reassurance that no goal is out of reach for me. Tracy
also gave a lot of good pointers for students on how they can boost their resume and career
through obtaining certain certifications and also keeping in touch with previous mentors.
Jud had a lot of great information regarding the health informatics and data analytic field, it was
great to hear about how much the field is growing and where there are opportunities for students.
The last part of seminar ended with going over upcoming dates for students to complete projects
and how we can plan for the final semester of the program. I think the seminars are a great
opportunity to remind students of these due dates because we can get overwhelmed sometimes
with school.
